Another Monday Holiday Coming...

Not sure what the weekend will bring - it was supposed to begin snowing sometime late this afternoon, with a predicted accumulation of about 2-4 inches. Well, the snow began about 10:30 this morning and has not even slowed one bit!  Think we might be in for another doozy of a storm.

Showed property today to a nice young couple and his dad - a brand new listing, wooded setting, rural location and for under $100K - absolutely unheard-of.  It is always enjoyable taking people out to see properties in the middle of winter - up to your butt in snow, cold temperatures, unpassable roads, etc.  Guess the rationale is that if someone is willing to brave all of these elements, then they must be serious and will probably buy.

I guess I look at it from a different point of view, as well - these people REALLY want to find a property and they are willing to show how serious they are by driving a few hours to get to our area and then walk, trudge, snowshoe, ski, or whatever it takes to view properties which may be of interest to them.

Tomorrow, I will meet another agent and her buyers out at one of our lake listings on GREAT EAST LAKE, and it should be a bit of a challenge, depending upon whether or not the owner has been able to shovel the entry porch and to have the driveway plowed - we are keeping our fingers crossed on this one!

This morning, there were over two dozen vehicles, many of them with trailers behind, complete with the latest in snow machines - evidently the faster the better.  But what I love to see is the dozens of people who brave the elements to set up a shack or just some canvas chairs and set their fishing traps for a day of ice fishing.  Not sure how anyone has done, but I know they are all gearing up for the big YORK COUNTY ICE FISHING DERBY to be held on Saturday, the 25th of January, right here at Mousam Lake.

Here at EXIT Key Real Estate, is our intention to provide hot chocolate and hot apple cider, free of charge to all of the fishermen, just as a way to say THANKS for your interest in our region.  Remember, for the BEST information and service for purchasing lakefront property, see the people at EXIT Key Real Estate, where we HAVE THE CORNER ON THE LAKEFRONT!

WEATHER ROLLER COASTER - and then some!

After experiencing the MINUS 22 degree weather the other morning, and then having a heat wave all the way up to 11 degrees, we found we were in for another surprise!  The temperature skyrocketed to PLUS 47 degrees yesterday, with pouring rain and high winds.

This morning, I spent about three hours with JRK Soils Inc. people - Ken Gardner and his son, Justin, trudging through ice-encrusted snow-covered lots, with the wind-chill of about MINUS 40 degrees!  We were working together to gather information for installing a septic system for a waterfront cottage, which currently has a cesspool (still legal in the State of Maine, so long as it is functioning properly) and also to evaluate a commercial parcel of property in Sanford, to determine what, if any type of business could be started there.

What an eye-opener for me.  Although I have worked alongside site evaluators  for over thirty-five years, going out to sites that require a new septic design or a re-design of a leach field, etc., I cannot say enough to adequately acknowledge the diligence and integrity of Ken Gardner, and now his son who is following in his footsteps.

If you are looking to purchase property in Maine or New Hampshire, and are looking for the most experienced and most committed Realtor to work with you, look no further!  Contact Elias Thomas at EXIT Key Real Estate, located on the CORNER OF THE LAKEFRONT at Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine!

THE FIRST SNOWS OF THE YEAR...

And do I mean SNOWS!!!

We are barely into 2014, and we in the northeast are being walloped by a double-header of a storm, which has already been responsible for many fender benders, and more.
This storm was supposed to begin on New Year's evening at about midnight - well we did not see midnight, but when I woke up this morning at about 4:00 the white fluffy stuff was sprinkling out of the sky.  It was sort of like looking at my mother's old sugar shaker, when she was decorating the tops of cookies with confectioner's sugar (powdered) - was God just giving us a sprinkling? Not so!

Surprising to me that at 4:30, with a prediction of between 8" to 14" of new snow that all of the southern part of the State of Maine had not yet declared a "white-out" and that all schools would be closed for today, at least.  About an hour and a half later, though, the ALL OUT message was being televised over all of the local stations.  Personally, I do not quite understand the rationale behind having kids go back to school for the last two days of the week and then have the weekend.  Why NOT allow families to enjoy their vacations, right through Sunday and then head back to school and work on Monday?  Who knows?

Well, this is certainly an impressive site - as I look out my office window and see the trucks and cars moving like molasses on a frigid day - it is only +2 degrees right now and the winds have not really begun!  UGH!  We are in for one helluva storm - supposed to keep snowing until about noon tomorrow!  Can hardly wait.
With the light on, OLD GLORY flies proudly...

Now that the rush of Christmas has passed and the ball-dropping thrill and the Tournament of Roses Parade are both memories, we at EXIT Key Real Estate are looking forward to an even BETTER year in 2014, when the past year was pretty darned good!  Already, I have three appointments booked for Saturday - the "official" first weekend of Winter, to show property on the lakes, as well as primary homes and farms in the country.  WOW!  I am really looking at 2014 to be a record-setting one, where slowly the economic recovery may wend its way to Maine.
